Patient Service Specialist
Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified administrative healthcare candidate to join our largest healthcare client in Portland ME. This position will be responsible for high-volume patient coordination, managing patient scheduling, prior authorizations, and incoming/outgoing patient referrals.
This is an immediate temp-to-hire opportunity involving a 12-week temporary assignment before an official offer. This is a great opening for candidates with prior healthcare experience looking to enter a new specialty, or those looking to gain experience in the listed areas.
Responsibilities:
- Perform insurance verifications for patients
- Obtain prior authorizations prior to patient appointments
- Manage administrative work queues in a timely manner (mostly incoming/outgoing patient referrals)
- Medical record management
- Generate operational reports
- Participate in quality and/or practice improvement activities
- Sends appropriate records to specialty practices and schools
- Work with clinical staff to track visit count and provide documentation to insurance companies as needed
- Maintains patient wait-lists, monitors patient no-shows and/or cancellations, and schedules appropriately due to cancellations
- Schedule appropriate procedures, tests and/or imaging, and follow up with patients to ensure all testing and imaging is completed
- Troubleshoot patient complaints/concerns as appropriate
Job Requirements
Skills:
- Required: Basic understanding of medical terminology from prior healthcare experience or educational experience
- Required: Strong attention to detail and time management
- Required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with EMR systems
- Desired: Prior experience in healthcare scheduling, referrals, or prior authorizations
